Hiya! I'm leaving for Atlanta tomorrow afternoon around one, so this is more or less the last instance of computer access that I'll have for while. How sad. XD

I'm pretty excited to compete! Naturally, I hope we do well, I hope it's as fun as last year ((You know... when we paid our way in... XD )), and I hope I don't get too bored and/or exhausted on the long trip down and back. XD

We don't get into our hotel until 2AM on Thursday, and we need to be at the Georgia Dome around seven, so... that's not a whole lot of sleep time. Luckily though, Thursday will be a practice day for both FRC and FTC, so I'll be able to snooze in the stands at various opportunities, as usual. XD I've finally mastered the art of getting comfortable in a really uncomfortable setting, namely, stadium seats. ((The New York Regional was the WORST EVER. They gave us benches to sit on for three days.)) When you're not actually participating on the field at a competition, which most members aren't, you're sitting in the stands for many, many hours on end, with any luck, playing video games or cheering. I'll have to remember to stretch my legs once in a while, otherwise, after the damage done at VCU and NYC, I might come back a cripple. XD

EDIT: URGH! The schedule says that FTC is competing on Thursday! Seeing as Lori and I are the only two people on 519 going to Atlanta, we're screwed. D:

I've been playing Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword non-stop lately, to the point where I have to pry myself away from my DS to do important things like homework and feeding the dog and, you know, sleeping. XD Really, I'm falling in love with the series all over again. My passion for FE6 and FE7 knows no bounds, it seems. ♥ [Shouts out to [profile] wonderful_words ] It's a shame the newer games have been so... lacking, in my eyes, because it's keeping me alienated from the community. I don't like the fact that the last two games have appeared to severely deviate from what is expected of FE games. What bothers me the most is all these outlandish, shape-shifting, animal-like characters that seem totally out of place when compared with the rest of the series. ((Filthy half-breeds! XD )) I hope it's not going to be a continuing trend because it was a deal breaker as far as my buying FE9 and FE10 went.

On that note, I feel like Intelligent Systems in general has been letting me down lately. The most recent Paper Mario game, which I got for Christmas, was so awful that I don't think I made it past the first chapter, which is unusual because PM1 and PM2 are all-time favorites of mine. I felt bad because that's a $40 gift from my parents that was essentially a waste, and seriously the only instance in which I've wanted to return a game. ((I'm big on asking only for things that I really want so this dislike is making me feel guilty...)) Everything from the dialogue to the new game-play style to the Wiimote, right down to the sound effects they used to express characters talking made me cringe. I hated how they stripped the game of everything players loved and tried to market it as something different. Sigh. [/Lame rant about Paper Mario]

Anyways, it's late, and sooner or later I'm going to have to turn off my computer and go to sleep. 'No use fighting the inevitable. XD Sweet dreams, respond to this if you play FE so I don't look like a total dork, and remember to wear orange and maroon tomorrow, if not for your country, than for me, as a future Hokie. :D

Love,

Popo

PS: Memai... Many thanks for defending me on dA from that phrase-stealer. I was touched by your efforts. ♥ XD

Good luck! <3

Orange and purple? What a weird combo of colors! *searches for a decent outfit* :D

I love your icon. XD

But anyways, the VT colors actually look alright... I'm wearing a sweatshirt from the school right now and it's rather complimentary, if I may say so. XD

So, so... TAKE THAT! XD

Orange and maroon? Hm, interesting. Too bad I wear white all day long! (Lucky me, having a work uniform!)(Note: Sarcasm)

And oh, you knowwww I love Fire Emblem and obsess about it over and over and-- HEY WHUT. It's a fun fandom.

As far as FE9 goes, I own both FE9 and 10, but I don't have the drive to pick them up and play them. I'm not going to say the games are bad, per se, because some of the characters are really interesting, but IMHO, the anthro-y characteristics of these laguz things is just... It's not Fire Emblem. It never will be. Not to me. The game might be fun and enjoyable, but in my eyes, it would be more like a Fire Emblem ripoff than the real deal, simply because they had to go and try to make the game "cool" (and they did NOT achieve that effect in my eyes).

It was always been about...the humans. Not these half-human half bird/cat/whatevers. I mean, the character designs are cool, but they remind me more of some kind of Piers Anthony fantasy novel than a medieval setting (with pegasi and dragons) type thing. (And I happen to love that setting!) No matter what they do, they won't attract a lot of fans. I'm sorry. Fire Emblem is just too ...out there for that. But if they continue to make games, and they continue to fail in the eyes of their biggest supporters and fans... they will regret it in the long run. (Another game with anthro-like characters, and I won't bother even thinking about Fire Emblem anymore aside from FE7 and FE8.)

< /end rambling>

PS. FAVORITE PAIRINGS??

You said all that needs to be said, essentially. Fire Emblem = Humans. Save the weird stuff for like, Zelda or something... XD Seeing as the last few games got poor reviews and didn't sell quite as well, I think they'll go back to their roots, thankfully. And Fire Emblem 1/3 is being remade (Again!) for the DS so that'll be fun... :D

Favorite pairings? Awww... I dunno. XD This sounds odd, by I like to play around with characters that never communicated, or communicated in a limited capacity, within the game. Karel/Lyn intrigues me without end; I think they'd be compatible to a certain degree, but I don't expect you, a Kent/Lyn fan, to be open to that at all. XD I won't hold it against you.

I just got Heath and Kent's supports the other day and I'm all of a sudden interested in their bond. ((Relationship = NO ))It's kinda neat. :)

I'm excited for FE 1/3 :D

And pairings are odd and fun at the same time. I think characters that don't support would get along fabulously or be really interesting! What about Sain and Lyndis? Sain and Florina? Kent and Florina? You know? I think the SC's are just the tip of the iceberg. You know, any character can interact with any other character. There is no way that Kent goes the entire game and only talks to like, six people. Argh. And no, no Karel/Lyn for me, even though he's a pretty interesting character. (I wonder about like, Karel/Ninian sometimes though... or Karel/VAIDA but only because Vaida is so awesome.)

oh, and Heath and Kent are TOTALLY AWESOME. I'm not a yaoi/yuri/etc shipper at all so I'm strictly het myself. No relationship for those two! (Which is surprising there isn't more about them out there...just a few 'fics at the most that I've seen.) I looove Heath and Kent's supports, and I'm sure you can guess one of the reasons why! Hee.

As a fashion student, I absolutely REFUSE to wear those colours, my colouring is just all wrong. I stick to neutrals with an accent colour - mainly red.

Anyway, this is a comment, not as new journal entry. I played FE7 but have yet to finish it, I got to Mission 18 or whatever and haven't played it in about 2 years.

But I've seen Eli play all the others, and my favourite is Myrr (Sp?) the Mamkute (Again, Sp?)

Ahhh OMG! I'm so pissed at how bad the new Paper Mario is! The fact that its not an RPG already made me decide I wasn't going to buy it.

*chuckles*

I have the same problem. I love the two Elibe games, but the others ... just don't do it for me, especially the Tellius games.
