Woo! So I have some cool news that I'm ready to share with you guys. (I didn't say anything before because I didn't want to jinx myself!)

Yumi, the webmistress of the Ace Attorney fansite SOAK YOUR HEAT, (located HERE on dA, if you prefer) asked me to be a guest artist in her artbook! I sent her a message on dA a few months ago about something completely unrelated, and when she wrote back, she just suddenly asked if I would be willing to contribute to her new GS4 artbook a brand new picture or a short comic related to either Klavier, Apollo, or both. I wasn't wild about the idea of slaving away on a brand new piece only to have it printed in black and white, so with a lot of help from Yumi, I pumped out a five page comic. I had to skip a whole day of classes just to meet the already generously extended deadline, but it's worth it to get a chance to have my fanart published.

For the record, I only had two weeks to work on the project start to finish, and... it couldn't have come at a worse time. XD The due date fell on the worst day of the semester for me, and I was so scared that I wouldn't be able to participate, all because I couldn't finish the last page on time. XD

Photobucket

I looked up some of the people on the guest list, and I honestly don't know why she picked me to be among these fabulous artists. (Especially since I honestly hadn't even communicated with her prior to this!) I'm good, but I'm going to look terrible next to a few of the people on this list. I'm glad I didn't find out who else was a guest until after I finished. I would have probably bailed at the end from intimidation instead of toughing it out.

SO EXCITED! ;w;

In no real order...

1. Welcome to the Monkey House by Kurt Vonnegut

A story for every person, a story for every mood. I'm not much of a fan of Vonnegut's novels--Slaughterhouse Five was painful, I think--but I love his short pieces and was so surprised when I picked up this book. He's witty, crazy and introspective. Each story is like a little nugget of wisdom or a cruel, satirical oversimplification of society. I eat this stuff up, really. XD (How did I end up with this book? I bought it after seeing Who Am I This time? with Christopher Walken.) XD

2. No Pretty Pictures: A Child of War by Anita Lobel

I first read this when I was about nine, though I'm not sure what it was doing in an elementary school library. XD It's one of my favorite books, and the best Holocaust novel I've ever read. Lobel looks back on her childhood as a Jewish girl in Nazi Poland in an unbiased and non-exploitative way. It's a truthful, raw look at an otherwise heavily documented period in time.

3. Emily of New Moon by L.M. Montgomery

A children's book, but one that I hold close. I read this over and over when I was little because I thought that the prose was just so lovely, and Emily so charming. XD Something I like about this book is that Montgomery manages to put into words certain thought processes and feelings that are often times hard to pin-point. It's one of those books that can really speak to the reader and tug at the little things that make us human.

4. Mr. Darcy's Diary by Amanda Grange

It's like a more interesting, more scandalous, easier to digest version of Pride and Prejudice. Too bad we can't all publish our fanfiction, like Ms. Grange. XD

5. Philip's Complete Guide to Stargazing

If it's a desert island, I bet the visibility is pretty good, right? XD LOL NERD.

Turn up the volume and watch I this. I promise you that it's not a RickRoll, as fun as that would be. XD

Happy Saturday, everyone! I'm so glad it's the weekend; I thought it would never arrive! :D

It's hard to believe, but as of today, I officially have less than a month of high school left! Graduation is on June 16th, and even though seniors are done with school on the 10th, it won't feel official until I've walked the stage and snagged my diploma. It's going to be such a long ceremony though... XD The class of 2008 at HHS has about 500 students walking so it's going to take forever. Nooooo! XD

Good news! Lori and I are top ten regional finalists for a $5,000 scholarship! We had to write and illustrate an original, 20+ page children's book with a storyline pertaining to the importance of tolerance and diversity. I think we had a pretty good entry, though I had a huge knot form in my stomach when I noticed we sent in our pages with a handful of tiny spelling errors.

The whole process was an ordeal that I'll never forget. XD We had only found out about the contest a month before it was due, and we were forced to work on it during prime robotics competition time, so it was hard to actually sit down and work. As expected, we waited until the last day to start getting down to business, and ended up working from about noon Friday to 2am Saturday. NON-STOP. XD We wanted to murder our characters about six hours in, and by the time we zipped up the story and emailed it to the judges, I think we were about ready to murder each other. XD The worst part is that a few weeks later, Lori sent me a link to the submission page, where I discovered that shortly after we had turned our entry in, the contest had been extended by another week or two. ARGH! XD

That said, I hope we win. Heads will roll if we don't get something because both of us are scarred for life by that experience. XD

I'm not really sure how I should recap yesterday's events because it was all just so strange. I got off to a bad start in the morning because I overslept and ended up missing a test -- something very unusual for me -- and I suppose it messed up my sense of time for the rest of the day because after that I felt like the clock was speeding up, then slowing down, then stopping, then blasting forward again. It was uncomfortable, to say the least, and the situation wasn't helped by the fact that I was awfully nervous about the afternoon.

I was invited out to eat with some friends after school, except that, you know, there was someone invited to come along who I've had a bit of a crush on [COUGH XD] and I'm pretty sure I was acting like some sort of bashful idiot the entire time because I couldn't think of anything to say, and Lori made me nervous the day before when she said that the feelings were requited by the young man in question (('Not even sure if that's true. ^^; )), and I felt like something was expected of me, though I don't know what. You know that expression there's an elephant in the room? It felt like that, or at least, Lori's intentional double-date atmosphere made it feel like that. XD I had a chance to redeem myself later at a Brawl party but I was so put off that I failed miserably. My heartfelt apologies to all those involved. Social Retardation = 1. Popo = 0 XD

I feel like mentioning that the weather today is beautiful. It's breezy and warm and cloudless, which is nice because it's rained incessantly for about two weeks now. I went out this morning to get a tan but was chased inside by an angry bumble bee. XD

Love,

Popo

PPS: I'm still working on that meme from my last post. I haven't forgotten anyone! XD

Outpost of the World. Sounds like it should be a book or something! XD Anyways, hello from Maine! I'm enjoying my-- get ready --summer house near the sea, soaking up the clouds and humidity and old-people smell and all of Maine's other charming amenities.

Hah, okay... It's not that bad. We've spent the last week renovating my nana's house, which we bought a few months ago when her landlord mentioned that the lot was going up for sale and that she'd have to leave. The transformation is going swimmingly so far-- we've completely turned around two bedrooms, moved in about 1/3 of the furniture we'd been keeping at the other house, and are planning to more or less make the place livable again. I'm excited-- Lori, you are SOOO coming up with me next Summer. XD

Aside from painting, making runs to the town dump, pulling up carpet, laying wood, and eating blueberries responsibly, I've been lurking around dA and working on some school assignments. I just love my AP Government work-- the opening instruction is something along the lines of "read the whole dang Constitution, bitch!" How wonderful! Here's a hot tip for you English folks-- you can find the text for No Exit online instead of paying $11.99 for the script-and-some-others at Boarders. Yes, I'm a very begrudging student, aren't I? XD

As for other interesting tid-bits, my work at FESS is driving me up the wall at the moment. XD There's this kid there who thinks he's some brilliant artist when he honest to goodness cannot even draw a stick figure properly. I'm not even joking-- it's sad and I actually want to cry every time he posts ((which is quite often)) because with each new topic he makes, a volley of well justified, un-deleteable flames appear, telling him to take a hint and get some help. Ugh. And what's more, I was in the process of making a resource thread when someone else went and approached me about making one himself. I said, "Hey! Let's team up and make one together!" and he replied with "lol oK." So what does he do? He makes the thread, makes it ugly, makes a really half-assed post with zero resources and walks away like it's okay.

IT'S NOT OKAY. DX

So-- now I have to find a way to gently tell him that his thread makes my eyes bleed and that I'll take care of the tricky stuff and he can feed me links. Yay.

That's enough ranting for now-- I think I'm sort of grumpy as I write this because I'm having massive Roger-withdrawal at the moment. XD And please... If you're reading this, for the love of all things holy, leave me a comment! I feel like I'm isolated! XD I miss my LJ buddies and I miss a certian community! I love you! Love me back! XD

Wub,

Popo

PS: Who's that strange man in my mood icon? He seems familiar but... o___o;
