Woo! I'm home for the week! :D

I took a break from dA from Tuesday through Saturday and it was actually pretty nice. I came back to a boatload of really sweet, encouraging comments, so that was cool. :3 I'm still nervous about the charms I'm going to be selling though... I was really confident when I sent out the order, but now I'm like, "Hmm... I probably won't even sell one..." or "I'm not going to sell enough to earn back what I put into the project..." I hope it's just nerves. I still haven't decided on a price, either. Most people are selling similar items between $4.99-$5.99 + $2 shipping, so I was thinking $5.50 each. We'll see. :/

In other news, I did a little shopping, and I'm gifting myself some real APH One Coins for Christmas this year. XD

Yay! I ordered Austria back in July for a steal--$9!--and I just found a reasonably priced Hungary a couple minutes ago.

I feel like life is pretty much perfect right now. (Hopefully I won't be eating my words later!)

  • There's a package of cute, plastic nations waiting for me in the mail room! Yay~! XD

  • I've been eating properly and hitting the gym--I love, love, love rowing. XD

  • I'm getting a Daily Deviation on dA sometime in the next few weeks! (Gallery Mod: "lol I was waiting for my birthday to give you a dd")

  • I'm a whole week ahead on my school work. :3

  • There is a beautiful guy in my teaching group. ♥

  • I have a new roommate for next year! She's really sweet--like a brunette Grace Poltrack. XD

  • Weather permitting, I'm going home this weekend!

YAY POPO! XD

My computer is fixed, and it turns out that I won't be going to Maine for my aunt's funeral because I need to stay behind with my sister, who has an exam Thursday morning that she paid to take and can't miss. I really wanted to go, and I feel a little guilty. D: More on that a little later. I'm really bummed out over a lot of things right now, but those are tales for a different entry. :D

Bwah! °___°; So there's been a change of plans — instead of leaving for Blacksburg ((AKA VT Orientation Land!)) tonight, I'm leaving in an hour. Yikes! I don't really have time to be making this post, but I'm hoping that it'll help me settle down a little. I'm so nervous; I have such a hard time making friends at warp speed. I can do it over the course of like, a week, but I struggle when I need to pick up some buddies in, you know, the course of an hour or so. Ugh... It's times like this when I wish I was a little more outgoing, our at least better versed in the art of small talk. I'm hoping things will go well, but we'll just have to wait and see, I suppose. I'm definitely excited to sign up for my classes though. My AP scores were good enough that if things go well with all my paperwork and score reports, I won't have to take any English at all in college, nor will I have to take any history. I plan on replacing English with German. XD That'll be fun.

See you all in a few days! Wish me luck! XD

Love,

This weekend, FIRST Robotics FRC Team 116 went to the New York City Regional Championship at the Javits Center and won the Chairman's Award. This is the most coveted award the program has to offer, and is presented to the team who best embodies the message of FIRST. Winning this award not only guarantees us a spot at the world championship in Atlanta, but also, bragging rights for the rest of our existence as a team.

. . . . . . . . . . . .

Wow. Now that I'm done being serious... XD

Winning this award is like... winning the Nobel Peace Prize for Robotics! That's the only way I can explain the Chairman’s Award to a FIRST-outsider. Seriously. XD And I'm going to go on to say that right now, Team 116 just might be the team to beat.

Our FRC division [FRC: Think large, incredibly expensive, student-built robots] just clobbered the competition for the Chairman's Award at the NYC Regional, the biggest regional in the world, thus securing a spot in Atlanta; our FTC section [FTC: Think smaller-scale, less expensive, also student-built robots] (AKA Team 519) as you know, won first place at the Maryland Regional, also gaining a spot in Atlanta; and finally, our animation team won first place in the Autodesk Visualization competition at the Richmond VCU Regional for the sixth year running, giving them a spot in Atlanta and, promoting them as one of this year's top five national, award-winning animations.

I can't think of any other team in the world who can match this, or rather, us. And there's a lot of teams out there. XD

I have a little anecdote I want to share before I tie this up. When you get selected for an award at a FIRST event, the team leaves the stands, walks onto the field, and runs by a line of judges, sponsors, etc. for a quick congratulations and a high five. After Lori and I stopped screaming and hugging each other, we went down and joined the line with the rest of the team.

Now, I doubt many of you to know this name, but Dean Kamen, who among many things, founded FIRST, invented the Segway, and is a pioneering force in prosthetic limbs for veterans, was waiting at the end of that line with the massive Chairman's trophy. ((Can you see where this is going? XD ))

I walk up to him, noticing that no one has grabbed the award, but before I can shyly sneak away, he says, "Congratulations! Why don't you hold onto this." He then proceeds to maneuver the trophy into my arms, to which I'm totally shocked and panicking, and as I leave the field, I hear, "Stop! Stop!" coming from behind me. I turn around, and two photographers, one from th New York Post, snaps a few shots of me with the trophy and starts interviewing me, mentioning how he's going to put me in the press tomorrow and blah blah blah. It was incredible. 'Easily the best moment of my life, though, I feel bad for getting press attention regarding a submission I didn't actually work on. Obviously, my contributions to the team were a big help to our victory, but I only wish the people who actually wrote and delivered our presentation had thought to snag the trophy. XD

Anyways, we've been after this award for fourteen years, and I'm just so thrilled to be able to say that I was on the team the year we won, and also, the year that all of our sub-teams qualified for the world championship.

FTC TEAM 519 IS GOING TO THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP.

ON MY WHEELS, BABY.

Outpost of the World. Sounds like it should be a book or something! XD Anyways, hello from Maine! I'm enjoying my-- get ready --summer house near the sea, soaking up the clouds and humidity and old-people smell and all of Maine's other charming amenities.

Hah, okay... It's not that bad. We've spent the last week renovating my nana's house, which we bought a few months ago when her landlord mentioned that the lot was going up for sale and that she'd have to leave. The transformation is going swimmingly so far-- we've completely turned around two bedrooms, moved in about 1/3 of the furniture we'd been keeping at the other house, and are planning to more or less make the place livable again. I'm excited-- Lori, you are SOOO coming up with me next Summer. XD

Aside from painting, making runs to the town dump, pulling up carpet, laying wood, and eating blueberries responsibly, I've been lurking around dA and working on some school assignments. I just love my AP Government work-- the opening instruction is something along the lines of "read the whole dang Constitution, bitch!" How wonderful! Here's a hot tip for you English folks-- you can find the text for No Exit online instead of paying $11.99 for the script-and-some-others at Boarders. Yes, I'm a very begrudging student, aren't I? XD

As for other interesting tid-bits, my work at FESS is driving me up the wall at the moment. XD There's this kid there who thinks he's some brilliant artist when he honest to goodness cannot even draw a stick figure properly. I'm not even joking-- it's sad and I actually want to cry every time he posts ((which is quite often)) because with each new topic he makes, a volley of well justified, un-deleteable flames appear, telling him to take a hint and get some help. Ugh. And what's more, I was in the process of making a resource thread when someone else went and approached me about making one himself. I said, "Hey! Let's team up and make one together!" and he replied with "lol oK." So what does he do? He makes the thread, makes it ugly, makes a really half-assed post with zero resources and walks away like it's okay.

IT'S NOT OKAY. DX

So-- now I have to find a way to gently tell him that his thread makes my eyes bleed and that I'll take care of the tricky stuff and he can feed me links. Yay.

That's enough ranting for now-- I think I'm sort of grumpy as I write this because I'm having massive Roger-withdrawal at the moment. XD And please... If you're reading this, for the love of all things holy, leave me a comment! I feel like I'm isolated! XD I miss my LJ buddies and I miss a certian community! I love you! Love me back! XD

Wub,

Popo

PS: Who's that strange man in my mood icon? He seems familiar but... o___o;

Hey everyone!

I'm going to Atlanta for robotics nationals. I should be back on Sunday in the evening but... I have a feeling there might be delays. Whatever happens, I'll keep everyone posted. :D
