Nope. You were in the right on this one. Even ignoring all the other signs you had - no physical attraction anymore, a different mental plane, you name it - he's proven he's not above lying to you to cover his ass because he's a coward. I have to wonder how strong of a person he is, considering what I've heard about this guy from your end, and he seems more willing to please people that don't have his best interests in mind than he is his girlfriend. Taking for granted, maybe?
Don't be impatient waiting for the "perfect" man, you never know when he'll come around. But I don't think I have to tell you that; you don't strike me as the type of woman to get stupid over a guy. XD
